Plain Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup raisins optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F

  2. Cut butter and salt into the flour, with a pastry cutter or use your fingers by squeezing the butter and flour together. until the butter is small like a pea. Mix in the raisins at this point if you want, or keep them plain. Stir in just enough of the milk so dough can be made into a ball.

On a floured surface knead the dough by folding it in half over itself about 10 times. then press the dough with your fingers into a square or circle 1/2 inch thick and cut about 8 or 9 pieces.

Place on a cookie sheet about an inch apart and bake for 10-15 minutes at 450°F until they are a nice golden brown. If you want them cheesy on top just add cheese when they are done then return them to the oven for a few minutes enough to melt the cheese.
